Delhi woman strangles daughter after lover refuses to accept her

A woman has been arrested for allegedly strangling her daughter in Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area, police said on Saturday.
The incident came to light after the girl was brought dead to the Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital in Ashok Vihar and the doctors informed the police after spotting strangulation marks on her.
The police reached the hospital, registered a case and brought the girl’s mother to the police station for further investigation.
During interrogation, the woman broke down and confessed that she strangled the child, police added.
Further inquiry revealed that the woman, who earlier lived in Himachal Pradesh, had separated from her husband and came to Delhi to marry a man named Rahul, who she had come in contact with on Instagram recently. However, Rahul’s family rejected the marriage proposal, saying that they wouldn’t accept the child.
Frustrated due to Rahul’s family’s response, the woman strangulated the girl in a fit of rage.
It was also revealed by the police that the woman told them that before she came to Delhi, one of her relatives had sexually assaulted the girl.
The police have registered a case under sections 103 and 65 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) read with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and further investigation is underway.
